Week 14a- Print Ready Design-Layout Terms

1.Serif- a slight projection finishing off a stroke of a letter in certain typefaces.

  • Sans serif- a style of type without serifs.

2. Margin- Any deliberately unprinted space on a page, especially surrounding a block of text. Margins are used not only to aid in the aesthetics and the readability of a page, but also to provide allowances for trimming, binding, and other post-press operations.

3. Illustrator Guide- is a line that helps you line in text

4. Bleed- A printed image that extends beyond one or more of the finished page margins and is later trimmed so that the image “bleeds” off the edge of the sheet.

5. CMYK- Abbreviation for cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black). The four process colors.

6. Image Resolution- Image resolution is the detail an image holds. The term applies to raster digital images, film images, and other types of images. Higher resolutionmeans more image detail. Image resolution can be measured in various ways.

7. Proof- Any early copy of to-be-reproduced material produced as a means of checking for typos or other similar errors, as well as positional errors, layout problems, and color aspects.

8. Artboard- a type of good-quality cardboard used for illustration and painting

9. Registration MarksSmall designs, shapes, or other patterns (most commonly a circle or oval with a cross through it) placed in non-image areas of negatives, positives, color separations, and plates to ensure correct register--or alignment--of successive colors and/or images.

extra credit TASK 3 (20pts)

extra credit TASK 1 (20pts)

If I could be a superhuman and could choose any two superpowers I wanted, I would choose to be able to talk in every language and to be able to mediate and resolve every problem or feud in the world. I would try to stop wars by hearing the reasons the war was being fought. Then I would try to solve the problem of the war by making a compromise. By stopping wars, you stop all of the innocent suffering and death that come with it and thus save even more people. My name would be A Good Citizen.
